Hilary Hahn

I truly believe that I will never forget tonight.  I went to violin today and right outside my teacher's teaching room was a poster for this event:
"December 9th: Hilary Hahn Lecture/Demo

As part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Master Encounter series for the Colburn Conservatory of Music, violinist Hilary Hahn will be giving a lecture/​demo on Thursday, December 9th at 6:00PM in Thayer Hall. The event is open to the public and free."

I almost died when I saw that.  I was kinda debating whether I should go or not cause I actually have finals next week.  But my mom told me "hey, finals will come and go.. but this is Hilary Hahn".  So I got a ride from a friend and oh MY GOOODNESS! I will never forget this night. 

   The past two weeks I've been getting really frustrated that I haven't really made any like "level" improvements in the past 5 years (Even though I practice my butt off).  but this was a huge wake up for me.  It reminded me that music is not about levels of skill or competition.  It's about Beauty.  Soul. God. 

   I sat within about 100 ft of her and asked her a question in the Q&A part of the lecture.  She played two mvts of unaccompanied Bach at the end.  It was seriously one of thee most beautiful things I've ever heard.  The hall was pretty small...but warm and intimate.  My teacher once told me "playing unaccompanied Bach is very intimate.  It's a place where you meet God".  Because I was sitting so close to her, I could feel the intimacy in her playing.  I could feel the personal aspects of every bow change and every note.... especially in the slow mvt. (she played one fast and one slow mvt.)  If she was doing this for money the seat I occupied tonight (the floor..thanks to crowds of people there)...would probably cost 75-100 dollars....i think.  The experience of it, I believe, is worth much more.  I am so fortunate to have gotten all this for free. 

   I actually brought my cell phone and I was going to take a picture or a video of her.  But my phone died right when I sat down.... This was a good thing though.  If I had been obsessed with recording everything I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much as I did.  A simple camera can not capture beauty quite as well as the human ear and mind can.  On the other hand my friend did get a 10 second clip of her playing... it's kinda bad quality but hey... it's a camera phone :P

Relax

I don't ever think I have been that relaxed before...  during any performance or any practice sessions or anything.  My heart rate was incredibly slow... or at least it felt that way.
      I just finished my first recital at the colburn school of music.  I was the only violinist tonight... which i am extremely happy about.  Less pressure :]  The whole day I was having this weird stomach thing.  I think i was getting nervous.
     On the way to colburn, I started singing Jesus loves me, beyond words (tenth ave north), and beloved (tenth ave north).  Realizing that God loves you no matter how badly you screw up does wonders for your nerves.  I ended up being so relaxed that i started dragging a bit.
     All in all, I didn't play the best I wanted too... dragged... then a rushed a little.  But this was the very first performance where I was confident in my playing.  Being confident, I have slowly realized, doesn't mean that you do your best.  It means that you realize that God will love you no matter what happens... that you don't need to prove yourself to others.. because you have already satisfied the master of all things, by simply doing your best.

Sometimes...

Sometimes we runaway from God because we feel that we are not worthy.  

Sometimes we need to realize that we don't need to work to gain God's approval because we already have it.  

Sometimes we need to stop chasing what we already have.

Sometimes we need to hate ourselves enough to realize that we can't control ourselves. 

Sometimes we need to be selfish enough to believe that the greatest being on earth loves us and is willing to guide our lives for us. 

Sometimes doing things right doesn't mean doing things perfectly, it means to do them with the mindset that God loves us regardless of what the outcome is.  

Sometimes... all the time.

Have you ever had a teacher soo wonderfully awesome and insightful that your just like *jawdrop*

yeah that would be me right now.  So I got a new violin teacher right.  SOo crazy.. 

ok on the off chance that he might read this (highly unlikely) I won't mention his name. haha

So the first time I met him I think he took too many cough drops cause he was sick so he was acting super weird.  Really really weird.  and he's kinda short too..well not really but he kinda look that way :] YET, he knows EVERYTHING.  Like I said, this guy is Yoda.  

On another note... he has the golden touch... but for music.  I swear everything he plays turns to audible GOLD.   He gave me this song couple weeks ago.  I didn't really like it... therefore.. I didn't really want to play it.  So I went to lesson the other day and he played like different measures to show me what he wanted me to fix... like I said, King Midas this guy.  Like when he played I could like imagine a prince charging through battle to  rescue his princess.  His music tells a story. 

    

He told me this story of a guy's dad he knew.  Way back before cheap public transportation and copy machines, there was this guy named Mr. Sheng.  He loved the violin.  His favorite piece was Ava Maria.    There was a violin transcription of the piece, but the only copy was over a hundred miles away in a library.  Mr. Sheng walked one hundred miles to this library.  walked.  seriously he walked.  When he got there.  He copied the music.  note by note.  line by line.  Then he walked another hundred miles home.  Love music people.  love. music.    

 

The Princess

So this is a little story i wrote for Childrens story :]  It's called

The Princess

There once was a princess who lived in a castle.
life was great and never a hassle.
her father loved her and spoiled her with tassels.

One day an evil man came to her and made a proud pose.
he said "come with me, and i'll give you a rose!"
Her father exclaimed "No! That man will only bring woes!"
Sadly, the princess only saw the beautiful rose,
that actually smelled like stinky toes.

The princess ran away with the man, much to her father's dismay
The king saw her off on that very grey day,
saying, "I love you, I love you! Don't go away!
We have a bouquet of roses! please please stay!"

The man led the princess to a land with no tassels.
where every day was a hassle.

The princess was put to work
as a booking clerk,
soon she went berserk!

She cried "I want to go home"
to my bed and to my comb!

but the evil man yelled, "you can't go home now!"
your father won't allow!

You've run away!
and my prisoner you shall stay!

The princess declared, "then I'll plow..
I'll milk a cow!
I'll have sweat coming off my brow!

Anywhere is better than this!
Because I reminisce

about my father's castle
where there are no hassles."

The princess went back
her father almost had a heart attack!

she explained to him ,"I'm sorry, but I can't be your princess anymore."
I'm not like I was before

School...and Inception *spoilers*

is not fun :[
ssiigghh haha I had three weeks? of summer break?  haha two were at the beginning of summer i think...and one was wheatstone...which was AWESOME! aannyywwaayy yesterday was my first day of fullerton college.  The first day of the semester is always SUPER CROWDED cause a bunch of people are trying to petition into classes... since im still a high schooler... i get a later registration date :/ which means that by the time i get to register all the classes are already full...which forces me to petition into classes....sadly more and more ppl are attending comunity colleges cause everywhere else is experiencing budget cuts.  sooo i stepped into Psych 101 today and there were 70+ people trying to petition...yes. I counted.  It was disgusting.  However, i wrote the prof. an essay on why he should take me the day before class.  AN ESSAY :P i don't know if i'll get the class but it's worth a shot...or maybe not.  it was kinda funny though the first thing he said was :

"Welcome to California.  The land of no opportunity." - Dr. Bob Byde

Depressing...yet funny and ironic.  He's an interesting man.  He has a phd in psychology i think and he's teaching at a junior college...He was married seven times...SEVEN.  He says he's had a wife from each continent.  CRAZY.  He's currently married right now but...man this should go see a psychologist :P but seriously it was take an act of God to get me into this course. 

   on another note haha i got into two statistics classes... which is EXTREMELY rare.   There were 13-15 ppl petitioning for the first one...only 5 got in.  For the second one...that's a funny story haha... so the teacher told all the petitioners to choose a number between 1 to 100.  So i picked the God number..."77" .  I was convinced that I wasn't going to get into this class...but then he called out the number 73.  I got in.  There were like 10-12 people and only 4 got in.  Miracle.  No joke. 
*SPOILERS*
 So I saw inception today...super awesome haha so as for the ending...i think it was real... cause the top was about to fall....ANND whenever he's in a dream..he has a ring on.  and at the end he doesn't have a ring on.  Don't try to say cause "oh he doesn't have a ring anymore cause he finally let go of his wife" ahh ha see at the beginning/end when he goes back for old Satio he's wearing a ring and thats after he lets go of his wife.. :]   Sooo much awesome stuff in this movie btw..i'd really like to discuss it with someone :P It's actually A LOT less confusing than Dark Knight...or Prestige (both by Christopher Nolan).
sooo things I found interesting:
1. ok how did Cobb end up washing up on the shores again?  I mean he went from with his projection of his wife...to the shores...Weird... haha
2. The concept of the movie seemed to revolve are planting seeds in people's minds/heart.  Hmmm... anything to do with how to spread christianity? :P idk maybe maybe not :/ also it sends the message of careful what you put in your mind.
3. also the totem..OHHMMMGGEEE ok the totem is like a hold on reality! soo awesome. and when Mol locked away her totem.  She lost her hold on reality.  She lost sight of the better things and traded it for fantasy.  Descent Into Hell anyone?  haha she went insane in reality too...
4. the kick is....sooo interesting haha so every time they get outta a dream they have to kill themselves.  This might sound longwinded or even a little crazy...but imagine that our selfish desires...our selfish wants are all a dream.  In order to accept the true reality (goodness, truth, beauty) we must die in our unreal feigned realities.

5. Notice in every "dream-mission" they have.  Mol always messes things up.  After he confronted Mol and finally let go of her...everything we better...kinda.  Letting go kinda like up the scene where Carl lets the house float away at the end.  

 No matter how great dreams and fantasies may seem... Reality is always better. :]

Reflections

WOW.  Last couple months have been a CRAZY whirlwind... SAT Prep started, Wheatstone...yeah crazy..  Soo i haven't been updating because...i have had a lack of time :[  SAT sucks the life out of you...no joke.  I really don't agree with the insanity of asians here...these kinds of programs kinda just suck the emotion and really kills the soul in some way.  I mean really is it worth it to spend 7 hours a day during summer cramped up in a chair, then going home and doing homework for another like 4 hours...ALL for one test?  Why am I here again?  I want to go to PUC...don't think it's THAT hard to get in..."/ idk i guess it does help with scholarships... really it kills your mind though.  Well anyway last week was WHEATSTONE! and it was AMAZING!!!  I thought it was going to be horrible haha but it was probably the best thing that happen to me :]  Keith Buhler was my mentor...which was really werid cause I'm used to calling him Mr. Buhler but for that week i called him Keith....hmmm still not used to it...anyway...GO PELICANOUS REX (our group name)!!!! Dr. Reynold's seminars were incredible....and i say this literally...i don't think wheatstone whould have as big of an impact on me if Dr. Reynolds wasn't there... :P and I met THEE greatest people EVER :] (Rachel, Brittnay, Eric...so on so forth) i like genuine ppl...genuine ppl make me happy :] That week, I really saw God.  like really truely saw a better glimpse of Him.  From watching up to the getty to the discussions to the speeches to epic monday adventures to musical performances.  It was amazing. :]  Some people say camps like Wheatstone change their lives..... Wheatstone saved my life.  no joke.  I can earnestly say that I am happier now, then before wheatstone.... Actually, before it I was about ready to like go crazy....yeah... Wheatstone is good :] you should all go :] and i seriously don't think i can explain all of it in one small blogpost...  Wheatstone is immensely different i'll say that much.... anyway here are some of the selected pics i have taken :]....

They. Killed. Batman.

Okie dokie so recently checked up on the what's going on in the dc comics world...specifically the batman area (hey, what else do ya do in summer?).....BE WARNED!  This is going to be a nerdy post! xP  Ok for starters I'm just going to say that Nightwing is my favorite dc character of ALL TIME!! Nightwing is the original robin....just grown up haha. 

Awesome?  I think so! :]

      Annyyway though this post is not about him... well not mainly, it's about Batman.  So apparently, DC comics decided to kill off batman.  Well Bruce Wayne - batman.... To give a little background on Bruce Wayne, when he was 8 he saw his parents shoot and murdered in front of him.  He vowed to try to rid Gotham City (his fictional hometown) of such crimes.  His number one poilcy was Never Kill anyone and Never bare firearms.  Yet, his dying act showed him picking up a gun and killing someone with it.   

       ok with that said...here's my point.  When DC comics killed off Bruce Wayne they destroyed a LOT of things.  Let's make a list! :]

WHY I DON'T LIKE DC COMICS:

1. They killed batman... dude...THEY KILLED BATMAN!  For years, Bruce Wayne has proven himself to be  THEE greatest escape artist in the world.  At the end of serveral issues, batman is at a near death state, yet he ALWAYS escapes.  That's just who Batman is.  He escapes death.  So to have Bruce Wayne killed by some lazer beam eye's from some evil super god (so no one has escaped this lazer beam thingy...so what? :P He's batman)....not cool.  

2. Bruce Wayne is the immortal batman.  When someone says batman, it's ALWAYS linked to Bruce Wayne.  Even people who don't know ANYTHING about comics know the simple fact, Bruce Wayne is Batman.  It's kinda like how everyone knows that Clark Kent is Superman.  It's just known facts ya know?  To change that is like....insane.  I don't like it. 

3. Bruce Wayne died breaking his most sacred rule.  This guy became Batman because he witnessed killing in one of he most horrifying ways ever.  He was grounded upon this rule his ENTIRE career.  These people made him go againest everything he stood for.  This makes Batman a hypocrite... The worst part about this is how the writer of issue of batman's death explained it.  and I quote:

"the root of the Batman mythos is the gun and the bullet that created Batman. So, Batman himself is finally standing there to complete that big mythical circle and to have the image of Batman up against the actual personification of evil and now he's got the gun and he's got the bullet. It seemed to me to work." - Grant Morrison

This guy apparently is saying that Bruce Wayne became who he is cause some bad guy had a gun and went "MWWHAHAHAHA" and made Wayne's life miserable.  So Morrison thinks it "works" to make batman's last act, one of revenge.  So batman points a gun at a symbol of evil and goes with his last breath mutters "mwhhahaha I have the gun this time" (not really but just follow me here).  This is a HORRIBLE ending.  I guess it's just cause as a kid I was taught that revenge gets you no where and it's not the right thing to do.  As the Bible teaches "turn the other cheek".  Their saying that batman's entire life career was centered around revenge... maybe in the beginning a bit, but he generally stands for justice and ironically mercy too - not revenge... haha at least in my mind he does.  No matter how evil the villian is, he never kills them, in this way he shows mercy.  However, he does make them face justice.  This is why i hate the end of batman. They made a mess of one of the greatest characters. 

4. Bruce Wayne's replacement is Dick Grayson.  Yah.  So first, DC destorys one of my favorite characters (Batman/Bruce Wayne).  Then they go after my favorite character.  awesome.  So Dick Grayson was the original robin.  For the longest time he was the comic contrast to the darker character, batman.  After a while, he eventually became Nightwing.  Personally, this is my favorite character cause he's witty yet serious enough at the right times he's round character compared to batman.  (BTW... DC comics also messed up his storyline...and made him look like a COMPLETE JERK!).  As skilled as Grayson might be, he's no batman.  The character differences just don't fit to me.  Grayson will always be better as robin then as batman.  He actually hated some of the ways that Bruce Wayne did things as batman.  I don't know...i really doesn't fit for me.  Plus, they put an end to the character Nightwing...which im SUPER bummed about.

5. The new robin is....interesting.  So the new robin is Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne's biological son.  He was created in a artifical womb and he shares Bruce Wayne's dna.  Yah.  anyway this kid is snarky, he talks-back and he's nothing like the other robin's (haha yes there were more than one...not going into details about that) were like.  Personally, I liked how robin was a lighter, happier character.  This kid...eww...

    Anyway, that's my little rant on the dc writers.  It's sad they create such good characters then they destroy them... :[  In my mind, these characters stand for a lot more then what the dc writers potray them as.  sigh... they've messed up a lot of my favorite characters.  Batman, Nightwing, Tim Drake ( the third kid to wear the Robin costume), Cassandra Cain (the second person to be called batgirl).  But there is one good dc writer that I really like... but maybe sometimes don't agree with.  Alan Moore.  "Superman: For The Man Who Has Everything".  Go check it out. ;]

A Good Friday

It's been a wonderful day!  I got to go adventuring with Emily at the fullerton arbortum!  Such a beautiful place!  After that we went to downtown fullerton and bought some clothes :] After, we went to get some chocolate covered espresso beans and chicken soup at rutabogez's :].  Wonderful little hole-in-the-wall!  Ahh This is My Father's World!  (I appoligize for the lack of quality blogger has for photos... these are usually a lot higher in quality : /  )

It's sabbath now.  God is good.  God loves me.  Why do you love me God?  A lowly sinner like me.  Prideful and careless.  May I one day understand your unjust grace and mercy upon my kind.

oh good gracious..so i got my permit and we call the driving school to make an appointment.  so the guy on the phone is like "what is youaer pwnumber?" ( yes, he pronounced it that way).   so we had to ask him like three times before we understood what he was saying.   Today I went driving for the first time... the guy had a HORRIBLE koren accent...which basically means he buts a "phh" sound in front of everyword.  So he's like "ok you purse (first) driver?" After I said yes ...then he sighed like a "oh crap no"  sigh.  Then he was like ok.  so we start going and he starts yelling "PAKE PAKE PAKE!!!"  and im like wait what ache i'm not aching!"  Then he yells "No PAS No GAS"  Wait..i'm not farting. What?!? So after he experiences my disasterous driving he decideds it's safe to make phone calls.  ggrreeaatt idea.  haha so then he starts yelling in fluent korean to these people..  It's hirlarious.  Then he'd be talking and i'm about to make a turn. he says "how much?"  so I thought he was talking to the guy so i mind my own business.  But turns out he was asking me how much speed should i have when turning.  So of course I'm like oversteering with too much speed.  Then he yells at me with his bad accent.  I can't take him seriously with his accent! it's just too funny.  He's really impatient too so everytime i do something wrong he's like "NONONO!! Why you do that?!?" imagine Edna Mode from the incredibles saying it.  haha.  So we start going on services streets...and after a while we go to bueana park... from brea bueana park is pretty far...so i'm like "What are we doing here?"  He makes me turn into a korean plaza and turns out he wants to go shopping...  at this point im thinking "You have got to be kidding me.  My parents are paying you to make me drive you to let you make calls and drive you to go get your grocerys?"  So turns out he wanted to buy a cell phone battery to make more phone calls... but on the way home... he doesn't know how to get home..  Imagine this.  A guy trying to teach a kid how to drive while looking at the map to tell the kid where to drive.  Eventually we made it home but it was hilarious... :]  

and we are JUNIORS!

SCHOOL's OUT!!! Man, i have some bittersweet memories of this year!  Well haha i guess you can call it more bitter that sweet... haha I hated almost everything about this year...EXCEPT..Inklings. 

Wonderful, wonderful Inklings.  To my class you guys are the best and I will sorely miss you all!  so, I decided i'd write a little something about all of you. :]  kinda like a ode to inklings :P

Miss Ali Wing :  The first day of class, you walked in and I was like..dude that kid's cool.  That kid's gonna be my friend! :]  It just so happened that we had study hall afterwards and no one would really give a care if we talked or not!  You've become a good friend this year Ali.  It also just so happened that we both dropped study hall second semester so none of us would have to endure toture alone ;].  When we got to that discussion when we were talking about love at first sight...and how Miss Brim mentioned that she saw one of her best friends at orientation and was sure of her as her best friend.  idk not exactly the same story...but similar i guess.  ;]  have fun in England, lake Tahoe, and New Zealand this summer!  We shall have to find time to hang out. 

Miss Alexandra Lang:  Ok one of my favorite memories this year is "the tarzan law".  See whenever we talked about Lewis' idea of the moral law, Miss Lang would introduce the idea of Tarzan..  Did Tarzan know of the moral law?  After a while I dubed it the tarzan law!  That's going to make me smile everytime i hear it. 

Miss Katriana Wylie:  Your so quiet yet you say the AWESOMEST things!  I am STOKED about having you at La Mirada next year!  and your papers and writing style are amazing.  I only wish that I had read as much as you did/do.  It really shows in your writing.  ;]  Some day i'll be standing in a barnes and noble and I'll see your name as author of a bestseller book.  Your goin' places :] 

Miss Danielle Hamlett:  You are absolutely the best at figuring out what i'm trying to say haha.  Sometimes I DON'T even get what i'm trying to say.  haha then you work it out somehow and create an idea.  :]  You also have amazing ideas on concepts and whatnot!  Like at the beginning of some disscussion I would be dead set on a certain direction to the arguement... Then you'd just good around with your amazing ideas and total change my perspective of the conversations and make me argue for the opposing side.  I will seriously miss you next year! Tell Nicole I said HI!  Oh and you take AWESOME pictures! :]

Mr. David Aldana:  You know what's sad David?  You're the ONLY guy in ALL of my classes this year.  What are the chances amIright? This year has been fun for our class haha.  It was fun editing your papers.  Thanks for editing mine.  Why did I always get paired- up with you haha?  It was for the best i suppose.. :]  It was really werid cause you got injured a lot of times this year....keep up sports.  Your good haha.  Well when I see you playing for UCLA i'll be like I know that guy and I went to school with that guy! ;]   

Miss Brim:  Thank you so much for a fufilling and amazing year!  I came into inklings thinking I was going to hate it.  Then you completely changed my views of TA and Christianity.  I have truely enjoyed this year more than others.  Thank you for your dedication to teaching and making sure that we learn and grow! 

You guys have made this year awesome!   For these experiences I will forever be thankful.  I'll miss all you you!  Have a great summer!

If you ask me one thing i remember from every year of my life i would say a lot of things ...starting with...
Pokemon.  
I remember when i was in 1st or 2nd grade, my mom would grant me and my brother 1/2 hour of tv. This would consist of pokemon.  I recently listened to the original theme song and suprisingly, it's pretty...inspiring.  haha take a look for yourselves...

This is what I grew up on haha.  Suprisingly, pokemon's redundant yet addicting plots have taught me that evil will give up.  At every possible oppertunity, the bad guys will always attempt to somehow hinder you from acomplishing your dreams.  and it's strange, in pokemon, Ash doesn't always win every battle.  After every battle that he loses, he gets right back and to training harder. haha If they made ash win every battle what really would be the fun in that?  :P but it does have it's down sides too so : /

    Annyywwayy....mabye like 3rd and 4th grade I would say... Kim Possible.  Such a good show.  It's one of those genuine disney channel shows. Not like the stuff their putting out these days..  *bleh* XP It took me and my brother the longest time to figure out that if you take away the first letter in kim and Ron's name it's impossible and onstopable.  :]  Same thing with everyone in Kim's family.  Another fun fact. did you know that the voice of Terry Mcginnis (Aka Batman) in Batman Beyond, Eric from Boy meets world, and Ron from Kim Possible are all played by the same person?  wweerriid O_O!!

WITHOUT a doubt, Hands DOWN, Teen Titans.  I really like how it was animated..it's like american with a hint of japanese...I was so crazy about that show it was riducolus...(wow im bad at spelling).  XD haha I would used to get a bunch of the episodes on my computor and make music videos from them.  I got pretty popular on youtube from that too surprisingly :P  ended that after a while... haha but it was good...  i don't know.  Now that I look back at it.  I'm glad I stopped that overly obsessive craze over Teen Titans.  I actually wish that I would have stopped going so crazy earlier.  Every good story must end sometime.  And if we try and try again to relive the first time we every watched a good cartoon like Teen Titans i doesn't work...  : /  i guess to respect the qualities of certian things, we shouldn't over obcess about it... cept' for Christianity..cause that's always a new story everyday...sooo awesome.

hmm ok 7th to 8th grade... i think there was some justice league with some calvin and hobbes the comic mixed in there... man i love those things haha.. well i already wrote a rant on justice league so i won't talk about that...but Calvin and Hobbes... BEST. COMIC. EVER. I don't know if Bill Watterson (creator/writer/drawer of Calvin and Hobbes) was christian or not but he seemed to have very christian themes in Calvin and Hobbes... O_O.  Fun Facts: Calvin the miscivious 6 year old was named after John Calvin the philsopher.  Hobbes was named after Thomas Hobbes..also a philospher.  Mrs. Wormwood is named after Wormwood the jr. devil from C.S. Lewis' character in The Screwtape Letters.  I remember I really liked that book too :] .. anyway this is one of my FAVORITE comic strips (Jane I bet you'll like this)... 

Usally kids like denis the menace will use the excuse "oh i didn't know i wasn't supposed to do that" but not Calvin.  Here, Calvin outrightly knows he's being evil.  It's hilarious! 

Well if you asked me right now what i would shows or comics or idk books i really like i would probably say something like CHUCK!! :D It's like comdey/action/drama...okay first of all...they may reuse a lot of plot lines like the whole "oh this person died...but not really"....card.  They did that like THREE TIMES!! but it is good.  You really see the character development in Chuck over the episodes. and Chuck and Sarah are SOOOO cute!! :D

anyway that's my quick ever view of shows/comics over the past few years.  I'm getting a slight bit into the dc graphic novels.  I started with a couple superman stuff - "Whatever happened to the man of tommorow", "For the man who has everything" and i got some batman too :D - "the killing joke"

all by Alan Moore... he has a interesting view on reality...almost similar to Charles Williams.  anyway favorite quote from graphic novels so far..

That last quote made a lot more sense to me after i read the comic so i guess that would give you incentive to read it?  haha ...but that last part (Aren't they all?).  it's worth discussing. ;]

Childhood Days

      So I recently went to a wedding ( in which I caught the bouquet for the first time :] really beautiful wedding :]... anny way I saw some old childhood friends.  It's amazing how images in your mind stick.  Like I see some of these friends sometimes once a week or other different childhood friends 3-4 times a year.  and all around, when someone mentions their name i just remember their face as a 7 or 8 year old.  Regardless of how often I see them or how old they really are.  It's uncanny.
     When I was a kid my family would always take vacations with another family.  They have a son that's roughly a older or more than me.  Up until he turned 13(?) I was always taller than him.  After than he shot up.  haha in my mind I'll always remember short boy who was older than me and as the kid that teased me and pulled my pig tails.  Now when I look at him or see a picture of him i'm just like "woah".  when did we get so big? 
     Same with another one of my friends.  Now this person I see at least once a week.  I was also taller than him until he turned..wait...i think im still like 1/4 of an inch taller :D.   But when he was 12(?) he got glasses.  and now the name and the face just don't go together.  My brain seems to have set his 8 year old baby face without glasses too his name. 
     It's werid what the human brain does huh?  I think this has happened to me because i still haven't realized how fast everythings passing by.  Time goes by pretty fast.  Friends grow up (literally upwards).  We're all getting older.  and life's getting harder.  There are just times I wish soo badly that I could go back to being a 2nd grader and living a carefree life.  Easy homework..plenty of friends...when the biggest problem I had was "why do people keep pulling my pigtails?" 
    But no.  I can't do that.  I can't live in the past.  Life is hard because it presents an oppertunity to grow as a person.  If life was as easy as it was when we were 6 years old, then we might still have the maturity of a 6 year old.  I sometimes wonder if life is hard just so that the rewards of certain hard obstcales seems worth so much more.  I also believe that with every hard point in life, it creates a new oppertunity to learn to trust God.
    It's time to move on.  We're older now. The reality is childhood friends are taller than me now. Time is flying by faster than ever.  and life is just presenting new oppertunities for me to trust God to develop my character.  Wow, I sound old.  :]

The Incredibles and Christianity.

It's dead week.  I should really be studying for finals but haha they'll tend to themselves sooner or later I guess.  :P  Anyway I was thinking the other day of The Incredibles.  Awesome movie. 

How does any of this have to do with Christianity?  Well think about it for a sec.  Who, as Christians, do you think we should be?  Should be be brave and daring and ready to doing anything for the side good at all times like Mr. Incredible?  Maybe we should be like Mrs. Incredible, flexible enough to work through tough situations.  These are great suggestions.... but we should truly be like...

 

Incrediboy. 

At his age, Buddy was a fan boy, he followed Mr. Incredible willingly into danger.  He tried so hard to be like Mr. Incredible it was really incredible haha.  He might have gotten in Mr. Incredible's way sometimes, but I meant well at the time.  Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to relate God to Mr. Incredible because well, Mr. Incredible is human he makes mistakes too.  But what we should not do, is become Syndome.  The moment we try to do so, we turn our backs against everything that we are supposed to love and aspire to be like.  So yeah go forth and be a fan boy. :]

haha tommorow I am off to Hong Kong to visit family.  Gabriel and my mom left for HK last night [we're leaving sepreately cause I have some violin stuff tommorow : //  ]. Their still on the plane right now I believe. Jetlagging videos might be put up when we come back haha depending if we feel up to making them and editing them we have some footage from last year that hasn't been edited so.... :p.  So just need to get through one more recording and consert the it's HK and cousins and aunts : D

Justice League: A Fairystory

     So I just watched an old episode of Justice League again.  About three years ago I was crazy about this show ....come'on who doesn't like batman? or flash?  I think I liked Justice League cause it combined wit with humor and action.  BUT... nooowww that i'm in inklings and we get to read all these awesome books.  I go back and watch Justice League again and it's like WOAH!!! NO WAY!!! This stuff actually has contains objective truth!
     I was talking with Gabriel the other night about orthodoxy and Chesterton's view on Fairystories.  Chesterton seems to favor Fairystories and the like because they teach objective truths.  For example, Beauty and the Beast.  "a thing must be loved before it is loveable" (Orthodoxy 47).  In teaching this message, this story lets people better understand why it was possible for such inwardly ugly beings called humans to be loveable.  Humans are loveable because God first loved humans.
     What does this have to do with Justice League?  Well Justice League is a fairystory.   In the episode, "For the Man Who has Everything".  (If you want to watch it before I tell spoilers here's the links ;]  Part I       Part II Part III Part IV  it's about 22-30 mins?)  So anyway haha it's superman's birthday in this episode and he gets a visit from batman and Wonderwoman who come bearing gifts.  While walking to meet him, Batman remarks "I mean what do you get the man who has everything?".  Shockingly, Batman and Wonderwoman find Superman in a trance like state with a plant around his chest.  A villian steps in and monologes about it.  This "black mercy" reads the hearts desire and sends the victim into a trance that fulfills it's heartly desires.  False realities that satisfy all heartly desires.  hmmm.... I wonder what that sounds like. Wentworth.  Charles Williams.  When Wentworth got caught up in all his false realities that satisfied his heart's desires he went insane (Descent into Hell 222).  He went into a trance-like state.  Annnywhoo when superman got the black mercy off of him... he screams at the villian "Do you have ANY idea WHAT you did to me?!?"  The villian response "I fashioned a prison that you couldn't leave without sacrificing your heart's desire.  It must have been like tearing off your own arm....Happy Birthday Kar-el [ Superman] I give you oblivion."  In this passage, the villian, Mongol, implies that in reality or oblivion no single person gets what their heart desires.  For Superman to leave an incrediblaly convincing world where everything that he wanted was met, meant that he had to sacrifice his hearts desires.  The difference between Superman and Wentworth was that Superman had the will and the power, with slight assistance from batman, to fight againest and deny false realities.  Wentworth on the other hand could not find it in himself to take away those false realities.  The outcome?  Superman came face to face with reality which was hard but worth it.  For Wentworth? "Presently then the shape went out and he was drawn, steadily, everlastingly, inward and down through the bottomless circles of the void" (Descent 222).  What's the moral of the story?  Don't follow your heart or it's desires?  Go ask Wentworth. ;]   
      So...was superman truely "the man who has everything"?  Thankfully, No.  Cause if he did, Metropolis wouldn't have a selfless hero to protect them.  And Superman would probably end up somewhat like Wentworth, insane.  It's not possible to in this world to truly have everything your heart desires.  Because the heart desires earthly and worldly things.  The heart yearns to put earth before heaven.  Lewis says, "I think earth, if chosen instead of Heaven, will turn out to have been, all along, only a region in Hell...If we insist on keeping Hell we shall not see Heaven" (The Great Divorce VIII) Why should people watch Justice League?
1. It's a fairystory...one that entertains the audience with stories that contain objective and moral truth.
2. It's full of wit and humor combined with action.
3. It relates to Lord Of the Rings and Till We Have Faces. (A Better World,  Season 2 episode 6 and 7)
4. It relates to sacrifice of Christ.  (Starcrossed Season 2 episode 26)
5. It relates to a bunch of other stuff too. :]

Hello Good People!

Haha long time since I last posted.  I apoligize.  :[  sooo to update people on what I've been doing since my birthday [goodness me... that was a long time ago!] 

I.  Inklings!
Inklings is great fun :].  Fun people.  Fun tutor :]. and Fun books.  I never imagined that I would come to enjoy inklings THIS much! :P  Like I said before, I got into the smaller class that started out with.... eight people was it? O_o  hmmm haha well anyway now we have six people.  :\  Still joyous fun though :]] I wonder though... Why does Inklings make everyone read all the hard stuff at the beginning and all the fun and happy stuff at the end?  I mean, come on Descent Into Hell for third book?!?! It's murderous I tell you! :P  But then comes the good stuff... like Till We Have Faces or A Severe Mercy! [Those two are some of my all time favorite books].  Their AMAZING!!!  and the discussions just make it MORE amazing! :]
